What is SpeakSuite?
SpeakSuite is a digital platform that helps children practice certain kinds of speech-therapy exercises.
An SLP uses SpeakSuite to create a customized practice program for your child, tailored to their specific speech-therapy needs and their current skill level. Your child then loads up their custom practice program via the SpeakSuite app, and choose from various games to play; their practice goals are automatically incorporated into those games.
-
What conditions is SpeakSuite helpful for?
SpeakSuite is used to support treatment for speech sound (articulation and phonological processing) disorders.
-
What is the purpose of using SpeakSuite?
Like many other kinds of skills, speech needs to be practiced: your child can make faster progress in their speech therapy if they work on their goals in between the direct sessions they have with an SLP. SpeakSuite makes that practice more engaging and effective: it’s tailored to your child’s individual needs, and includes helpful tools like instant replay.
-
Is SpeakSuite an alternative to working with an SLP?
No—SpeakSuite is a tool used by SLPs to support the work they do. Creating an appropriate home-practice program requires an SLP’s technical expertise, as does assessing whether a child’s practice with SpeakSuite is effective.
-
Can I purchase SpeakSuite directly rather than going through an SLP?
SpeakSuite may look very simple—that’s part of the point!—but it draws on very technical knowledge about speech therapy. It is meant for licensed professionals, and is exclusively sold to schools, clinics, and individual practitioners to ensure its proper use.
-
How often should my child practice using SpeakSuite?
Your child’s SLP will establish a home-practice program that is suitable for their particular needs, including recommendations about the duration and frequency of practice sessions. Always follow the guidance provided by your child’s SLP.
-
Do I need to supervise my child while they are using SpeakSuite?
Ideally a parent or caregiver is present while a child practices with SpeakSuite to ensure that they are using it correctly, but for most children this takes the form of background monitoring: children use SpeakSuite for independent play/practice, while you keep an eye on them as they go. Your child’s SLP will give you more specific guidance that is suitable for their particular needs.
-
How will I know if SpeakSuite is working?
Because your child’s practice sessions are available to their SLP via secure recordings, their SLP will be monitoring their progress as they go. The SLP is able to adjust homework programs remotely, as needed—making goals more complex or simpler depending on how your child is progressing—and can provide you with reports showing how often your child has been practicing and how effective that practice has been.
